Costs to Working Caregivers

Acording to a new Met Life study Americans who take time from work to care for aging parents:


  •  Are losing about 3 trillion dollars(that includes the total of wages, pension and social security benefits).
  •  Both the number and percentage of adults who are caregivers has increased.
  •  About 10 milion adults over the age of 50 care for their aging parents
  • .A quarter of adult children provide this care.
  • Adult children who are caregivers for their parents are more likiely to experience poor or fair health than those who do not care for their parents.
This study was based on data from the  2008 National Health and Retirement Study.
